PAINTED PAPER COLLAGE (mornings): Learn to make your own amazing collage material that we will then incorporate through a range of collage techniques to make beautiful, lively works of art. SIGN UP HERE
ADVENTURES IN MIXED MEDIA (afternoons): This class will introduce students to a wide range of techniques and materials. Each class will open with a demonstration of a new art process or material including relief printing, gelatin printing, painting, paper marbling, drawing, and working with collage materials and found objects. Over the course of two days, we will explore color and composition and use collage as a starting point for painting and further mixed-media work. As part of my artist residency with the El Cerrito Recycling Center, this second exhibition will present work created by finding and altering papers from the mixed paper bin and the book exchange area. On view will also be collaborative pieces made with 3rd grade students at Fairmont Elementary School. The exhibition will be on the second floor of City Hall. In this one day workshop, we will work with a series of writing prompts to create highly visual writing that can be combined with visual art. Art techniques will be responsive to the writing and may include drawing, painting, paper folding, paper cutting, and bookmaking. We will look at artists who combine writing and text into their visual art pieces as inspiration and starting points for our own text and image works of art. REGISTER HERE
